Can I use Rebit on a Windows 7 Computer?

Yes. All Rebit products support Windows 7 in addition to Windows Vista and Windows XP (Service Pack 2 and better).

How do I know Rebit is really backing up my PC? Does Rebit tell me it's working?

Yes, it does. Position your cursor over the Rebit SaveMe or NetSmart icon in the lower right hand corner of your Desktop, in the System Tray. An information bubble will appear, showing the status of the Rebit and the most recent file backup time. Hover your cursor over any file on your PC. The time the file was last backed up and the number of backup file versions you have will display in a tool tip bubble.

How can I retrieve a file I accidentally deleted?

To retrieve a file from your Rebit, double-click one of the Rebit SaveMe icons, either on the Desktop or within the "My Computer" folder. This will open a "SaveMe" Windows Explorer window. Find the file or folder you're looking for and simply drag-and-drop it to where you want it on your PC. You can also open the file or save it to a folder of your choosing.

How do I know I will be able to get everything back?

In addition to making copies of all your data files, Rebit SaveMe or SaveMe NetSmart copies Operating System files, application files, and also information not available as normal files. Rebit captures Recovery Points, which are similar to Windows Restore Points but better. Rebit utilizes Recovery Points to recreate the disk structures, partitions, folders, and files on a brand new Hard Disk Drive just as they were at the time the Recovery Point was captured. Rebit SaveMe or SaveMe NetSmart also copies your files shortly after they are created or modified, making them available for retrieval. You can easily demonstrate this for yourself by retrieving or opening a backed up file, such as a Word document or a spreadsheet, from Rebit.

How can I tell how much of my Rebit space is used, and if I need more?

From the Rebit SaveMe or SaveMe NetSmart tray icon in the lower right corner is a Properties selection which will display the currently used capacity of the backup storage. Unlike traditional backup methods, however, you don’t have to concern yourself with the issue managing the disk space used, because Rebit will automatically delete the oldest, redundant file copies as well as deleted items from the oldest day of backed up items. For example, the oldest backups of files no longer on your PC (such as those from some weeks or months ago) would be automatically deleted to allow for a current backup if the Rebit is nearly full. In this way, everything on your PC will always be backed up; any file currently on the PC will have one or more copies retained on the Rebit SaveMe or SaveMe NetSmart backup storage.

What happens if my PC drive fills up the Rebit?

As long as the capacity of Rebit is the same as or larger than the PC drive(s) being backed up, the Rebit will automatically delete older backup information so that the Rebit will never get completely full. In this way, your current information will always be backed up, and you never need concern yourself with managing what's on your backup. For example, the oldest backup, such as a backup from some months ago, would be automatically deleted to allow for a current backup if the Rebit is full.

How far back will the backups go?

Backups will be available from the past until the Rebit becomes full. At that point, the oldest backup or backups will be deleted to make room for a newer, current backup, so that everything currently on your PC will always be backed up.

I’ve got two PCs; can I back up both on one Rebit SaveMe?

Absolutely. Rebit SaveMe appliances support backup of multiple PCs (up to 6) to a single storage device. You may also choose to use Rebit SaveMe software to create your own backup appliance using a USB drive you supply. The Rebit SaveMe NetSmart software supports backing up multiple PCs to a single Network Attached Storage (NAS) device. Note that you may also use Rebit SaveMe or SaveMe NetSmart software to back up PCs to individual storage devices or NAS devices also.

If I take my computer on a trip and don’t take my Rebit SaveMe, will backups resume normally when I get back?

Yes. Rebit SaveMe or SaveMe NetSmart intelligently backs up only those items that have changed. In addition, SaveMe NetSmart will automatically detect the presence of the network and the availability of the NAS device, making backup even easier than ever.

Can Rebit back up my iPod?

Rebit cannot back up an iPod directly. However, Rebit does back up your whole iTunes directory on your PC. Therefore, your iTunes music that is synchronized with your iPod could be recovered from your Rebit back to your PC in the event of loss.

What if I have a PC hard disk crash?

Replace the damaged disk drive with a new disk drive. Once the new disk drive is installed into your PC, connect the Rebit and insert the Rebit Recovery CD-ROM into your CD disk drive. Turn your PC on and ensure the computer starts from the CD-ROM. Then, follow the on-screen prompts to select the point in time to which you want to restore, and Rebit will restore your entire PC disk to exactly like it was at that time.

To recover your PC hard disk drive for any reason other than a damaged hard disk drive, such as a virus attack or a corrupt file system table, follow the same simple steps but without replacing the PC hard disk.

Rebit comes with the PC Recovery CD, and a recovery takes only a few hours rather than the few days it could take to do it yourself or to send it out to be worked on. The Rebit PC Recovery CD disk downloadable image may also be obtained by contacting Rebit™ support.

If my computer is destroyed can I restore to a new computer?

You can recover your entire PC backup from Rebit onto a replacement PC of the exact same make and model in the case of catastrophes like a destroyed PC or a lost or stolen notebook. It is important to note that all of the operating system files that are backed up on your Rebit are those used by your previous PC. If the replacement PC is not the exact same make and model as your lost PC, the recovered system files may not allow the new PC to run properly. However, you can recover any files and folders from your Rebit to a different PC by connecting the Rebit SaveMe backup device to the Windows PC and selecting "Browse" when prompted.

Can I use Rebit to move files from one computer to another?

Yes, you can recover backed up files from one computer to another computer. Rebit is designed for continuous, transparent backup and easy recovery of files or an entire PC. Rebit also provides for portability of backed up data to another PC, should you want to recover backed up files to a different PC. Simply connect the Rebit SaveMe backup device to the Windows PC and select "Browse" when prompted.

Can I restore to a larger system hard disk drive?

Yes. The Rebit™ system recovery process will reconstruct the an image of the old disk onto the new system hard disk drive. The result is a partition size identical to the original, and additional capacity remains unallocated. Using Windows 7 or Vista, the system partition is easily extended into the additional capacity. With Windows XP, a third party disk partitioning utility is required.

Can I back up my CDs and DVDs or network shared drives onto my Rebit?

No. Rebit only backs up all of the files on your PCs internal hard disk drives. If you want other files (such as from a CD or DVD or external hard disk drive) backed up, you must first copy those files to your PCs drive(s).

Can I use the external USB drive for storing files in addition to SaveMe backup data?

Yes. Rebit SaveMe utilizes SmartSave Technology to dynamically provide free space on the USB drive for your files. In the event that the used storage nears full capacity, Rebit SaveMe software will delete older, redundant backup data and old deleted files to increase available space for your files. Note that Rebit SaveMe Express software does not provide this feature; the drive letter for the storage device is removed for exclusive use as backup storage.

If I have an external USB disk drive, will Rebit back it up?

Yes. Rebit automatically and continuously backs up all internal disk drives on your PC. Provided enough capacity exists on the Rebit, you may add external disk drives formatted NTFS using the "Select drives to back up" feature. Rebit does not, however, back up network drives.

Can I un-install the Rebit on my old computer and then re-install it on my new computer?

Yes. However, in so doing, you will lose your backup of your old computer on your Rebit, and your Rebit will then no longer backup your old computer, only your new one.

Does Rebit™ create an image like other products?

Yes, but in a different manner. Rebit™ backs up system critical information differently from files, and this system critical information is collected once per day as Recovery Points so long as the Rebit storage device is available and the computer is on. The collection of system critical information is much like an image, and Rebit™ combines this with the file information during a full-system restore.

Can I transfer my applications to a new computer?

No. Rebit™ is not intended for use in transferring applications or operating systems to a new computer. Due to a number of reasons, including license protection and driver issues, Rebit does not support this usage. Rebit™ is a wonderful solution for protecting your current computer, and it also has an easy method of transferring data files to your new computer. Simply connect the Rebit™ device to the new computer, browse the Rebit™ backup, and drag-and-drop your files onto the new computer.

Can I reset my Rebit™ back to as-new condition?

Yes. Please contact Rebit™ support with your license key and software version for instructions on downloading and running the software needed for this operation.
