Nothing happened when I connected the Rebit. How do I manually start installation?

It may be necessary to open "My Computer" and double-click the Rebit icon to trigger installation.

How do I activate my software license?

A Rebit™ License Key was included with your product and affixed to the back side of the "Quick Start Instructions" and contains 18 letters and numbers (e.g. A1B2-C3D4-E5-F6A7-B8C9 - not a valid key)

  • Close any Rebit™ license activation windows
  • Right-click the small Rebit™ icon in the lower right corner and select "More" -> "Activate Software"
  • Enter your Rebit License Key in the upper field (with dashes, and with zeros for any 0 values)
  • Click "Get Key"
  • Click "Activate"
  • Click "Close"
  • Restart the computer

How do I install Multi-PC software on 2 computers?

The Rebit™ Multi-PC software CD-ROM is necessary only for the first installation. Follow the steps below to install Rebit™ Multi-PC software on your computers.

  • Insert the Rebit™ Multi-PC Software CD-ROM into the computer CD/DVD drive
  • Connect the external USB hard drive you wish to use as Rebit™ storage
  • If there is data on the external hard drive that you do not need, format the drive as follows
      a)  Open a "My Computer" window
      b)  Right-click the disk drive icon and select "Format"
      c)  Click to enable "Quick Format"
      d)  Change the "Volume label" to "rebit"
      e)  Click "Start"
      f)  Click "Ok"
      g)  After formatting is complete, click "Close"
  • If the Rebit™ software did not launch automatically, right-click the CD/DVD drive in "My Computer" and select "Install Rebit"
  • Click "Next"
  • Click to select the external hard drive for use as Rebit™ storage
  • Click "Next"
  • Click "Finish" to start the Rebit software on the computer
  • If any windows appear asking to allow the software to run, click "Yes" or "Ok"
  • Remove the Rebit Multi-PC CD-ROM and set it aside
  • Allow the Rebit software to complete the backup process for the first computer. It will display a countdown of files to be copied in the status display. To access the status display, move the mouse to the small Rebit™ icon in the lower right corner of the screen, and a status window will appear. Upon reaching zero, Rebit™ will be ready for backing up the next computer.
  • Right-click the small Rebit icon in the lower right corner of the screen (system tray) and select "Safely disconnect"
  • Connect the external hard drive to the USB port of the next computer (no CD-ROM required)
  • If an Autorun window appears, click to select "Start Rebit" and if no Autorun window appears, manually launch Rebit as follows
      a)  Open a "My Computer" window
      b)  Right-click the Rebit™ disk drive icon and select "Open"
      c)  Double-click "Start" to launch the Rebit software
  • If any windows appear asking to allow the software to run, click "Yes" or "Ok"
  • Allow Rebit™ to complete the backup as described above

Installation led to an error message - Why?

In some cases, Antivirus software presents a problem and should be turned off during installation.
Please uninstall Rebit if this is the case, restart the computer, disable your Antivirus software, and install again.

There are some dependencies required for normal Rebit operation. To ensure these dependencies are satisfied, you may need to follow these steps:

  • Click "Start" -> "Run..." (NOTE: For Windows Vista and 7, Start is the button in the lower left corner of the screen)
  • Type "services.msc" and click "Ok"
  • Double-click each of the items below and ensure "Startup type" is set as indicated

  • 1 "COM+ Event System" Startup type: "Automatic"
    2 "Remote Procedure Call" Startup type: "Automatic"
    3 "Terminal Services" Startup type: "Automatic"
    4 "Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider" Startup type: "Manual"
    5 "Volume Shadow Copy" Startup type: "Manual"
  • Close the Services window
